Weekend Chores and Explores

So, after the wonderfulness on Friday, the rest of my weekend was pretty chill.  I used the time to get some stuff doneski.

I FINALLY bought frames for the prints that I had purchased recently.  The Dave Murray print had dimensions that were a little funky… but I found a frame at Woolfit’s that seemed to work (Molly approved):

Screwed in the hardware and she was ready to go.

Since the length of the frame was perfect, but the width was about an inch short on each end, I had these grandiose plans of cutting a strip of matting for each side to cover the gap.  However, when I looked at the print in the frame, I kind of liked that you could see the raw edging, so I kept it.

Note my ugly jogging pants and bottle of Fresca.  Classy lady styles.

Before: reclaimed wood frame that starting to look SO 2009:

After: Amazing local print that makes me happy:

I also got frame for the Italian concert prints I bought.  They are also a funky size, and they also have a strip space on the side, and it actually looks AWFUL.  I really have to pick up some matting to fix those before putting them up:

I also took the opportunity to walk aimlessly down towards Parkdale Sunday afternoon to soak in some of the summer.

Here is my outfit:

Here is a sad balloon:

Here is a sidewalk sign for a Yard Sale.  If you know me, you know that this is the type of thing that makes me orgasmically happy:

I obviously followed the chalk arrows to the sale, but was disappointed with the fare.  Although, this table of freaky dolls made me smile.  Especially the one in the front in the bear costume:

It was getting hot so I bought a gelato:

It was basically a peach popsicle.  I soon realized that this was probably the most phallic piece of food that I have ever eaten in my life.  AND in order to consume it, I basically had to suck on it:

So yeah.  All the men on the street were lovin’ my popsicle suckin’.  I was actually really self-conscious about it and got a brain freeze consuming it as quickly as possible to avoid any comparison to… well… you know.

ANYWAYS, I stopped into the Drake General Store to check out their new stuff and came across a few copies of Take Ivy, which is an iconic men’s fashion book that was released in Japan in 1965:

I have been meaning to pick up this book for a while, and I was pretty excited when it recently came back into print.  It chronicles fashion of Ivy-league men in the mid-sixties:

It’s really fascinating to look through this book.  Men’s fashion seems to be so totally cyclical… I mean I’m pretty sure I spotted doppelgangers of these men on the West End of Toronto this very weekend having brunch or some shit like that…

For all you men out there.  I highly recommend this book.  The subtlety of men’s fashion often escapes me, but Hayashida does an amazing job of capturing the art of men’s style.  All the men in this book are hella-bangable.

Summer Social Sneak Peek

The Summer Social Pop Up Launch on Friday was AWESOME

…although I was so stressed out and busy that my entire face broke out like a 16 year-old “Justin Bieber pre-Proactiv”, and although it was so hot that I’m pretty sure I lost 99% of my body fluid through sweat, and although I had about 10 minutes within which to get ready for the event (including taking the dog out for what ended up being a diarrhea poop and reapplying make-up on my broken-out face, and dressing), and although I slammed my index finger in my car door while carrying booze, and although I smashed my lip on the roof of my car while getting out and it was all bleeding and I had an Angelina Jolie upper-lip for about 4 hours…

it was still SO AWESOME.

Our wonderful and gorgeous (and newly redheaded) friend Galit, who is an amazing photographer, did us a huge solid and took photos for the event, which I will post later with a more in-depth overview of the night, but I wanted to give you a sneak peek.

I don’t want to gush or anything, but Pam and I were so so so so grateful to all of our wonderful friends who showed up.  The venue was a bit out of the way from our typical “2 mile-radius hang out range”, but everyone totally made the trek up to support us.

Again, don’t want to gush out, but since coming to Toronto, I feel so incredibly lucky to have met so many amazing people who care enough about me to come out and support me.  Like, they are some of the most amazing people I have ever met.  Makes me tear-up a little.

Ok.  It makes me tear-up a LOT.

July 25, 2011

I SWEAR that my hair was all bombshell-y and a mass of gorgeous redheaded curls this morning before I went out into the disgusting rainy weather.  Now my hair is just a slightly wavy frizzy mess.

This is my purple dress.  It matches my hair quite nicely.  HOWEVER… it is made from a very thin, clingy light jersey, which I am worried about.  You know when you wear a dress and you’re like :

“I wonder what it looks like when I’m walking from the back?”

… because I feel like this dress MIGHT be giving me “Stage 5 Jiggle-Bum” while I walk… bein’ all stretchy across my caboose and all.  Whatever.  Enjoy the show.

Important Dilemma

What outfit should Natalie wear tonight?

So, since you’ll all be coming to the wonderful Summer Social Pop Up launch party tonight, you can help me with an all-consuming and deep-burning dilemma: my outfit. Here are the options:

1. Super vintagey 1960s halter dress:

PROS: It’s like, totally vintagey. I mean, when in real life do you get to wear something this vintagey and NOT look like you are wearing a costume for a Hawaiian Rockabilly Burlesque Show? Plus, it makes my bod look ROCKIN’ (read: it hides my elephant-thighs).

CONS: We’re going to go to Camp 4 to dance like 90′s maniacs to Elise’s beats after the party, and that place is like, ground zero for “purposely-oversized-and-ugly-because-that’s-cool-right-now” styles. I anticipate that at least 70% of the girls will be wearing high-waisted, mom-bum Levi’s jean shorts with ankle boots and a boxy crop top with a top-of-the-head bun or some iteration of this outfit. WHICH MEANS that I will look like I am wearing a costume. A weird, Hawaiian Rockabilly Burlesque grandma costume.

2. High-waisted suede shorts with button-up sleeveless shirt:

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not a picture of me.  I will look significantly less cute/skinny/nubile.  Plus I won’t be wearing a blazer.

PROS: The shorts are vintage and the outfit is pretty cute. Unlike most shorts, these ones do not cut into the top of my thighs like butcher string and leave my leg fat bubbling up along the hem. They’re also high-waisted which suits my body-type. This outfit would be much more appropriate for the Camp 4 grunge-hipster gauntlet.

CONS: The shorts are a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitle short and revealing, and I’m worried that I’m going to be self-conscious all night and pulling at them and looking like a weirdo. Plus, I have a feeling it’s going to be hot tonight, and wearing suede on my nether-regions in 30 + degree weather does not sound appealing right now…

WHAT DO I DO?????

Sweet baby jesus, can you vote for the outfit you want to see me in? It’ll be revealed at the party tonight!

In other news, I baked up some deeeee-lish pink shortbread last night for the party. The first batch turned out awesome:

Then I got ambitious and accidentally took a long, luxurious shower while the other batch was baking and totally forgot about it:

June 22, 2011

I’ve been at work for about 30 minutes, seen only about 10 people, and have already gotten 6 comments on my hair.  It’s difficult to determine whether the comments were positive or negative, because they mostly consisted of:

gasp! “Your hair is red!”

… which could be a good thing or a very, very bad thing.

My theory is that my hair is having an epic electric clash with my neon orange shirt, and it’s making my hair look like it’s day-glo.

The good news about this is that I can’t get enough clashy-clashy lately, so:

EPIC ELECTRIC HAIR-CLASH = A GOOD FUCKING FRIDAY
